On the way...way out in West Texas, going to Big Bend is the small town of Fort Davis. It lies along the shadows of the Fort Davis mountains and is home to the Fort Davis National Historic Site, which is just about the finest and largest preserved examples of a military outpost from the civil war era in the west.
